A message from Dr. Steve Harrison

"Dear Angler,

I started Harrison Advanced Rods in 1989 because I wanted to source better blanks for the rods I was building. Nineteen years on, we make tens of thousands of rods and blanks each year for anglers who take their sport seriously. We are most famous form Carp Rods, but we make so much more. We do not follow fashion - we prefer to lead technically. We led with overfit joints, 40 Ton carbon, 3k and 1k fabrics, and today we still lead with higher modulus and lightweight carbons combined with lower resin content. We are one of the few companies that still make rods and blanks in the UK. Not because we want to preserve UK manufacturing (though that is a pretty good reason), but because I believe we can produce better fishing rods here in my Liverpool factory where I can see every rod blank being rolled from my office window. The guys who work for me are as committed as myself. Every person who is involved in making Harrison Rods loves fishing. Our production is tight and controlled. You cannot get that same level of control if you subcontract your manufacturing overseas.

Every year we produce new designs and the Torrix range of carp rods and Lorhic Fly blanks are at the forefront of carbon technology, but more important they have the advantage that they are designed and made by the most experienced team in the game. Classics like Chimera and Ballista are still hard to beat for many applications. We all eat and breathe rods and blanks and we stretch ourselves to be the best. That is why we are busier than ever making some of the worlds best rods. The only downside of our rods is that you will not find them in every shop. Please contact me if you need help finding the best dealer and if its just a blank you need we will supply direct.

Harrison Advanced Rods also manufacture in carbon fibre and kevlar for industry and other high performance sporting applications.

Good fishing,

Dr. Steve Harrison".

Our rod and blank range is huge. We make over 100 different rods and blanks for the UK market, we make more for export markets, and we make a lot more special product for niche fishing applications world wide. There are too many to list. There is some information here on our most popular rods, but please enquire if you need more information. We make dozens of different models for carp fishing, fly fishing, float fishing, barbel fishing, and spinning. We are most famous for our carp rods which are known around the world, but we are also at the cutting edge of fly rod development using the latest low resin content systems and lightweight carbon scrims.

Harrison Guide to Buying your own custom built rod.

Whilst Harrison factory rod building is the finest quality, there is often a good reason for wanting a cutomised build, a build unique to you. Customisation may be as little as having your name put on the rod, or it may be a complete custom build with different components, handle length or colours. The rod may be for a presentation or it might be a treat to yourself. With a Harrison rod the possibilities are endless. We can make small modifications to our rods in the factory, but if you want a complete custom build you have a choice. We are able to offer some variations direct from the factory or we have a range of partners who will build a rod to your specification. Many of them are well known as anglers and can offer you expert advice. Surprisingly, a custom build does not have to cost the earth. Of course it will vary on the components you specify, so we cannot offer you guide prices, but I can say that some custom builds for say Torrix, start below the price of a factory rod, though you can pay a lot more.

This specialised custom service between Harrisons and our rod building specialists is now unique in the UK. Most UK rod firms cannot offer custom build because they have their rods and blanks mass produced in China and Korea unlike Harrisons who make everything under the Harrison Advanced brand here in the UK. The key point is that you can have a custom built rod on a state of the art Harrison blank for the same price as a top end mass produced imported rod. One will be something personal to treasure for years to come, the other probably discounted next year, discontinued the following.
